How to Make the Perfect Cup of Tea
March 24th, 2009“How do I make a great cup of tea?”. This is one of the most common questions that we get here at The Teapot Shoppe. First, you must start with leaf tea. Leaf Tea is better than a tea bag and only black tea is considered “real” tea in Britain.
- Fill a kettle with fresh water and bring to the boil.
- Warm the teapot with some very hot tap water. Swirl it around in the pot to warm the pot and then empty it.
- Place 1 tsp of fresh, leaf tea per person plus one for the pot.
- Fill up the teapot with the boiling water
- Let it sit to infuse the wonderful tea flavor for 3 – 4 minutes, no longer.
- Pour the tea through a tea-strainer directly into clean china teacups.
Choosing the Right Teapot
The right teapot for the perfect cup of tea can be either metal, porcelain or bone china.
A metal teapot will keep the tea hotter for longer but china keeps a much finer flavor, with no tainting of flavor from the metal. If you want to keep the tea hot for up to 3 hours, invest in a teapot warmer.
