There will definitely be those good and bad moments when taking care of a pet. You can compare it to taking care of a child, as it is pretty similar like when you try to get them to stay out of trouble and they just cant, just like you cant get dogs to stay out of brawls or worse, attacking people, after you took the effort to send them to obedience school, make them socialize with other canines and taught them how to behave properly and even teach them a trick or two. For all you know, its never yours that started those brawls, its always the other anuimal! Yours merely went along with the heat of the moment, and before we know it, the situation just gets out of hand. It is always at these kinds of moments that you wonder what is the right thing to do. There are a few ways you can stop a clash or prevent an attack. First thing to bear in mind is to never yell at them, as they might think that you are encouraging them to clash harder. How to stop a dog fight? Youre in luck if there is a water hose nearby, as you can try spraying them down, focusing on their legs and feet as they do respond more strongly to the stimuli on these areas compared to other places. Try to remain calm as you do this. You can also try pulling them apart if all of the above methods do not work, but this is a dangerous act as there is always a possibility of you getting bitten. If you try this method though, do remember not to grab them by the collars or the scruffs of their necks when they are clashing as it might cause them to whip back and snap. If the other dogs owner is around at that time, it is even better as both owners can grab them by their tails and lift their hind legs off the ground to startle them as they are thrown off balance. This will actually make it easier to pull them apart. However, if you are alone at the clash or during the attack incident, you can try to take hold of the aggressor by grabbing his tail and lifting his hind legs and then pulling him away from the other animal. Another option that you can go for is to get a TASER gun and use it when you need to on dogs. A bit extreme, and even a little sadistic, but this is definitely a method worth trying as the TASER blast causes very little pain to them, compared to the pain from injuries due to the vicious brawls. It is also worth noting that the use of a TASER gun has no permanent damage to the attacking pet. Using a TASER is a fast and efficient way to stop not only brawls but also to stop dog attack. According to the statistics from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (CDC) an estimated 368,245 persons were treated for dog bite related injuries in North America for the year 2001.The highest number of victims were children between the ages of 5 to 9. The electrical jolt from the TASER blast will knock the attacking animal to the ground. Once they are shocked, there should be ample time to subdue them. The US based Insurance Information Institute stated that for the year 2003, dog bites accounted for $321.6 million in claims. 13,498,254 was the number of dog deaths for the year 2005, as quoted from a report by the American Pet Association and $137.56 per incident was how much the average cost of medical treatment for pets that are involved in brawls, as reported by The North American Vet Society for the year 2002. Judging from the above statistics we can safely say that the use of TASER gun will certainly help to cut down the number of fatalities and injuries to humans and pets, as well as cutting down the cost of pet medical bills. On April 13th 2006, the use of a TASER gun for dog control by a Monroe police officer named Greg Witten, to subdue two attacking pit bulls on a golf course was published in The Times Herald-Record. Having escaped from their Still Road home, the dogs harassed the golfers at the Monroe Country Club, forcing the golfers to defend themselves using golf clubs. The act of zapping them twice with a TASER gun by Witten forced them to return home. Having to TASER your pet would probably be the last thing on earth any pet owner would want to do. However, it is definitely better to be prepared for the unlikely event of them being in a clash as you never know what could provoke your dog or another pet to start clashing, or even worse, attacking someone. If you love your pet, buy a TASER gun as an investment in your pets safety. After all, TASER guns are reasonably priced these days.
